The Fun Pimps brought two versions of 7 Days to Die to the Stable branch in October: V3.3 "Bigger Backpack" on October 5, 2026 and V3.4 on October 26. Both focus on the inventory, but both also ship fixes you will notice on a dedicated server. Here is an overview of what changed and what you should know as a server admin.
V3.3 "Bigger Backpack"
V3.3 rebuilt the inventory from the ground up:
- The inventory is now an 8 × 6 grid with 48 slots. The old grid was 9 × 5, so 45 slots.
- Four rows are free to use, the bottom two rows count as encumbered.
- Backpacks come in three sizes (Small, Medium, Large) and six quality levels. You can craft them, loot them or buy them from traders.
- A backpack in the new Backpack slot extends the inventory to up to 96 slots (8 × 12). The extra slots start out as encumbered.
- The Pack Mule perk and Armor Pocket Mods remove encumbrance.
- The Prefab Editor gets multiple toolbelt pages. A new XML file defines the number of slots, rows and pages.
V3.3 also fixed several bugs that mostly show up in multiplayer:
- With "Drop on Death" set to Equipment, equipment is no longer duplicated on death.
- Dying while reloading no longer bugs out the weapon.
- A rare deadlock is fixed. It could happen when a MultiBlock straddling a chunk border was placed or removed at the same moment the save system processed reset chunks.
- Players should get stuck in the loading screen less often. Some situations that could hang respawning now time out instead of soft locking.
V3.4
V3.4 went to the Experimental branch first on October 23 and arrived as Stable b9 hotfix on October 26:
- Search and filters: Your backpack and containers get a search bar. Type an item's name or filter by category.
- Drone recovery: If your drone gets stuck or goes missing, a trader can recover it for you.
- Updated for the new backpack: Night Stalker Vol. 4, Steroids, Chicken Nuggets and the completed Fireman's Almanac set now work with the new inventory capacity.
The b9 hotfix fixes crashes in multiplayer games and locked inventory slots resetting after closing the inventory. You can also sell the 10th hotbar item again, Shift + Left Click moves items into dropped zombie bags and airdrops without errors again, and the game launches on macOS with Easy Anti-Cheat enabled again. Sharing quests from before V3.4 no longer causes issues.
What this means for your server
Vehicles keep their storage. V3.3 fixes a dedicated server bug: vehicles once again check their inventory contents before they can be picked up. During the Experimental phase, picking up a vehicle could delete its storage.
One-time item transformation. Players joining a dedicated server or P2P game on 3.4.0 b6 or later may find that some resource items from their 3.3 inventory turn into different items. According to The Fun Pimps, this is a one-time indexing error. Give your players a heads-up so nobody is surprised by suddenly changed stacks.
Other known issues in V3.4:
- New games can hit an error (NRE) when generating chunk decorations.
- The Euthanizer perk triggers but does not work.
- You cannot consume items directly from the Campfire. Move them to your backpack first.
- On Mac, joining a server fails when the game is set to French.
Server and players on the same version. Make sure your server runs on the same branch and version as your players, otherwise they cannot join. Players who do not pick a beta under "Game Versions & Betas" in Steam get the Stable branch automatically. If you played V3.4 early on latest_experimental, switch back to Stable now.
Mods and configuration. Mods that change the inventory or the UI are hit hardest by the new grid. According to the changelog, V3.3 deliberately changed a ranged weapon function so mods can keep overriding it. That is no guarantee for any individual mod, though. Also back up your customized serverconfig.xml before updating so your settings are not lost during an update.
Here is how to proceed:
-
Take a backup
Back up your save and your configuration before you update. -
Check your mods
Check whether your mods have been updated for V3.4. Pay special attention to inventory and UI mods. -
Update and restart the server
Bring the server to V3.4 Stable and restart it. -
Inform your players
Tell your players about the version and the one-time transformation of some resource items. -
Test
Join yourself, open your inventory and a few containers, and check that all mods load.
You can find all details in the V3.4.0 Stable patch notes on Steam.
