Enshrouded 1.0 launched on October 15, 2026 for Windows PC on Steam and for PS5 and PS5 Pro. That ends Early Access. According to Keen Games, the Xbox Series X|S version is still in development and planned for spring 2027.
What is new in 1.0
- All of Embervale is open. In the north you find the new biome "Cinder's Cradle", with a lava wasteland below and floating islands above. According to the changelog, it brings 14 new enemy types and 12 new Shroud Roots. There are also two new Hollow Halls (Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin) and new areas at the map edge of Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes. The main story is concluded "for now".
- More room to build: most zones where building used to be blocked are now open for bases. With the "Airborne Architect" skill you can build while flying freely.
- Higher caps: the player level now goes up to 50, and gear can be upgraded to level 55.
- Sparkworks: the new logic system lets you link levers and pressure plates to doors, traps and similar outputs. You wire everything up in a dedicated 2D editor and build your own gameplay into your world.
- Combat: 9 new spells, 22 tier-7 "Eternal" spell versions, a heavy attack for wands and two new wand skills. Necromancy is new as well, letting you summon skeleton companions.
You can find every detail in the official 1.0 changelog.
If you already owned Enshrouded in Early Access on PC, you do not have to buy it again. Three decorative props exclusive to Early Access players can be redeemed in the pause menu via "Redeem Add-Ons". If yours were missing, Hotfix 1.0.0.3 fixed that for some players.
What this means for your server
Saves are converted on the first start. Enshrouded uses a new save format with smaller files and a simpler folder structure. For local and in-game hosted saves, Keen Games confirms: the first time 1.0 loads a save from version 0.8 or earlier, the game backs it up and then migrates it. For worlds on dedicated servers, this has not been explicitly confirmed. So take your own backup before the update. The conversion runs on the server's first start with 1.0. If in doubt, the server log shows whether it worked.
The skill tree is reset. The first time you play 1.0 with an existing save, your character's skill tree is reset.
Keep playing or start fresh? Old worlds work in 1.0. However, Keen Games has reworked the world and the first hours of the game a lot and strongly encourages starting over in the FAQ. If your group wants to begin from scratch anyway, a fresh world is the better choice.
New setting for the number of enemies. The server settings now offer "Automatic". It scales the number of enemies to the size of the party, and the party is everyone actively playing nearby. The values of the enemy damage slider in the difficulty settings were also reworked, so check your old values after the update.
Permissions stay as they are. On dedicated servers, the user groups and their passwords work as before. Promoting and demoting players is not possible while playing on the server. New: admins see a chat message when someone joins, including that player's permission level.
Better server performance. According to the changelog, communication between server and game needs less memory. Movement input stays more responsive when the server is under heavy load, and the glide path no longer depends on the tick rate. The server performance warning messages were also reworked.
Patches since launch
Keen Games has shipped several fixes in the first weeks.
These are the points that matter for server owners:
- Hotfix 1.0.0.2 (October 16): fixes server crashes when there are a lot of enemies, plus a bug that prevented changing world settings. Corrupted characters were initially skipped during migration.
- Hotfix 1.0.0.3 (October 21): fixes crashes while migrating old saves. If a Flame Altar sat outside the voxel grid, the migration corrects its position, but you have to re-add that base's water.
- Patch 1.0.1.0 (November 2): fixes more migration errors and raises the memory budget the migration can use for worlds with a lot of bases. If a save failed before, Keen Games suggests trying the migration again with this patch. Sparkworks props can also no longer be destroyed by attacks.
Here is the safest order:
-
Take a backup
Back up your world before the server switches to 1.0, and keep that backup after the migration. -
Update and restart the server
Bring the server to the current version so it matches your players' game version, then restart it. -
Watch the log
On the first start, follow the server log until the world has loaded and been converted. If the migration failed earlier, try again with the current patch. -
Check your settings
Look at the enemy count and enemy damage and adjust both to your group.
